About WOTS: Westfall
Occupational Therapy Services (WOTS) provides Occupational Therapy (OT)
services for children of all ages and abilities in a clinic setting, using a Sensory
Integration frame of reference combined with traditional Occupational Therapy
treatment techniques. The
clinic's treatment "play area" has a gym-like atmosphere with
access to gross motor floor equipment, a variety of suspension equipment
(swings) and a number of developmentally appropriate toys and games to
facilitate hand development, fine motor coordination and eye hand
coordination needed for pre-writing and age appropriate writing skills, with
additional "tools" and activities designed to facilitate improved
processing of tactile, visual, auditory, vestibular, and proprioceptive input
and stimulation. The
general emphasis of these OT Services: v Maximize a child's ability to take in sensory
information (touch, sound, vision, taste, hearing, movement, body awareness) v Improve a child's ability to organize and
interpret that information (processing of sensory information) v Improve a child's ability to successfully use
adaptive motor responses during appropriate developmentally challenging task.
v Support family/caregiver's understanding of their
child's needs and educate as to methods of supporting the child's progress. Therapeutic
goals: Achievement
of therapeutic goals contributes to more developmentally appropriate independent
function and successful achievement in daily activities, improved self-esteem
and social participation. For each child, specific developmentally
appropriate and functional goals are set according to that child's individual
needs as determined during the initial evaluation. Children
who have benefited from these services: Many
of the children who have completed treatment with WOTS have had symptoms or
difficulties due to: Neuromuscular
disorders, prematurity of birth, being "at risk" for delays, Developmental
Delay (DD), Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), Asperger's Syndrome,
prenatal drug exposure, genetic disorders, metabolic disorders, Autism
Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, learning disabilities, Non-Verbal Learning
Disorder (NVLD), poor motor planning (dyspraxia), Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Tourette Syndrome, Regulatory Disorder,
Developmental Coordination Disorder, Dysgraphia, Dyslexia, and Sensory
Processing Disorder (SPD) including the 3 subtypes, (Sensory Modulation,
Sensory Discrimination, Sensory Based Motor Disorders). If
you have concerns for your child and feel that OT services may be needed,
please call or e-mail a request for an intake packet to begin the evaluation
process. |
